Why is S.A. work done remotely?
S.A. training is specific to the dog being Home Alone and/or away from their key person/people. A Behaviourist being present during training alters the situation we're trying to address.
How long does it take?
Programme length varies from 4 - 8 weeks. Whatever tolerance they achieve after an initial programme with me, you'll have the option to add on further weeks or I'll give you the tools to carry on with lighter direction.
My dog is fine as long as someone's around do they really have S.A.?
Separation Anxiety is an umbrella term for wide ranging presentations. It doesn't have to describe a very strong, hyper attachment to their person/people.
I have a puppy aren't they likely to just outgrow it?
Dog's are social beings who thrive in our company, a new puppy has to be taught that being alone is something they can cope with, through very gentle exposure and puppy specific exercises.
What can you offer that I haven't already tried?
Researching S.A. solutions? You'll come accross lots and lots of advice. Some of it is inaccurate, most of it is inadequate. If it did work I wouldn't have this job. The method I use has helped 1000s of dogs. (Truth bomb alert) It takes patience and commitment but it is very worth it.
I've already tried gradual, systematic desensitisation. It didn't it work for me?
One of the benefits of having expert eyes on your dog's training is that I can identify and share with you some very subtle indicators that your dog may be struggling. This helps prevent regressions, plateaus and failures. When and how we incorporate leaving Cues into training (picking up keys, changing shoes, starting the car etc.) is different to other desensitisation training systems, this can be a real game changer for many dogs.
What if my dog is just playing me up, they're not scared, but they are causing a nuisance when they're Home Alone?
As clever as your dog is they don't have the emotional or intellectual capacity for revenge! Your dog may not be afraid but could be bored, frustrated and suffering from FOMO. This can lead to some destructive and potentially dangerous behaviours. But given the right plan, plus ensuring their needs are met can be some of the quickest to respond.

Element One is a very comprehensive questionnaire. It's long (necessarily so) much of it is multiple choice however so isn't hard to fill in. Once I've received your answers I go to work analysing the data. Element Two is a Baseline Assessment, this is a Zoom meeting where I will take you through a set of exercises to establish your dog's starting point. Element Three is a bespoke report. Comprising my findings from your questionnaire and recommendations from our Assessment. Recovery Route Choice - over to you! From here you may decide a Programme with me is the way to go, if this is the case your S.T.A.R. programme fee will be discounted by 20%. Or if you're ready to start (or restart) your own Training I'll provide you with a pack of useful resources. Including; an overview of the framework used in my programmes, recommended reading, tech advice and more. |
